AFA Negotiation Committee Update — 2019 AFA Horizon Air Flight Attendant Negotiation Survey

AFA Negotiation Committee Update

2019 AFA Horizon Air Flight Attendant Negotiation Survey

Hello from your AFA Horizon Air Master Executive Council Negotiation Committee members, Ed Hawes MEC President & Negotiation Committee Member, Joelle Fuhrman, MEC Negotiation Committee Member and Tanya Phillips, MEC Negotiation Committee Member.  We are your volunteer QX Flight Attendants who are representing you at the negotiations table for the upcoming 2019 collective bargaining agreement.

Before we proceed to direct negotiations with inflight management starting in January 2019 we need to know what you, the Flight Attendants, believe needs to be addressed in our collective bargaining agreement.  This is an important first step in the development of the contract opener that will be presented to inflight management at our first meeting in January of 2019.   For us to be successful in putting together the contract opener we need to hear from you about what you feel is important to you and your work / life balance.

Taking part in the confidential negotiations survey is the first step in ensuring that your voice is heard.  Collectively, through the survey, we can prioritize what is most important to all of us. Thereby ensuring that we focus our energies at the negotiations table to secure those improvements most important to all Flight Attendants.

We are currently developing the survey and plan to have it completed by early October.  Once the survey has been completed we will send an access code to each Flight Attendant who has registered their personal, private email address with Horizon AFA.   We are not able to send you AFA information or AFA survey access to your company email.

When the survey is released in early October, we will provide you updates via our new and soon to be opened www.afahorizon.org web site and the existing HZN AFA Facebook page on rates of participation to keep you informed as well as encouraging everyone to complete the survey.  Participation in the survey is confidential and its important that each Flight Attendant not share the survey questions with inflight management.

The survey, along with your elected Local Executive Presidents, Heather Coleman, SEA/GEG/BOI and Kirk Hansen, PDX/MFR create the priorities and the strategy for our direct bargaining with inflight management.  Given that the survey has such a large role in how we prepare our bargaining strategy the results of the survey will not be published as the results could then be shared with inflight management.

The survey is electronic based and when released you will be accessing it with a personal code sent to your personal, private email that we have on file for you.  If you are not receiving email communication from AFA or if you are not certain that we have your most current email address then it’s important to update/send your email address to membership@afahorizon.org before the survey opens.  We are not able to send the survey code to your company email.

A second update will be sent to you when the survey is open for responses in early October. Please have your email address updated with AFA by this time and take the survey but do not share the survey questions with anyone.  Your survey responses are confidential and used collectively to prioritize our bargaining position.  The results of the survey will not be released as management could gain access to the results which would weaken our position during bargaining.

Please ensure that we have your correct private email address so that your personalized code can be sent to you that allows you access to the negotiations survey.  Send your updated private email address to membership@afahorizon.org.

In Solidarity – Tanya, Joelle, Ed
