Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month

AFA is proud to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage (AAPI) Month in May, an annual national observance celebrating the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States.

AAPI celebration originated when Congress adopted a joint resolution in 1978 to honor the first ten days of May in 1979 as “Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week”. It was expanded to an entire month by Congress in 1990 and was finally designated to take place during the month of May in 1992. The month
of May was selected to recognize both the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to the United States (May 7, 1843) and the completion of the first transcontinental railroad in the United States (May 10, 1869), which was accomplished primarily through work done by Chinese immigrants.

In 2021, the AFA Executive Board unanimously passed a resolution in recognition of May as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. The resolution established a special commemorative pin for AFA Members to wear throughout the month of May.

PBS calendar and protests

As a reminder, Flight Attendants should check the accuracy of their calendar in NavBlue PBS during the bidding window. During this check, Flight Attendants should ensure every pre-planned absences (including but not limited to recurrent, vacation, golden days, PDOs, leaves of absence, etc.) is shown on their calendar. Flight Attendants should also check their eligibility to bid and reduced block bidder status on the information screen. Any inaccuracies, contact qxfa.joint.pbs.committee@horizonair.com prior to bidding closing.

Protest period: From the release of the preliminary awards email thru the 12th of the month at 12:00pm is the protest period. This period allows Flight Attendants to contact the PBS committee and ask questions, raise concerns/violations/errors pertaining to their preliminary bid.
