Negotiations & Impact of Federal Government Shut Down
As you know, the federal government has been shut down since October 1st. We are starting to see the effects of the shutdown in ATC staffing shortages, leading to ground stops and delays. But the shutdown may also have an effect on our negotiations.
The NMB mediators, including ours, have all been furloughed. They have been instructed not to hold mediation sessions or even answer phone calls or emails during the shutdown. If the shutdown continues through our next session, scheduled for October 20-21, we will not have mediated negotiations on those dates. We are permitted to meet with management without the presence of the mediator. Since we want to keep our momentum, AFA has asked Horizon if they would be willing to do so. We are awaiting their response and will let you know when we hear back.
In the meantime, wear your RED pins, read the alert below, and take a moment to send a letter urging Congress to end this shutdown NOW!
