Ontario, CA crew hotel layover
Dear Flight Attendants.
Your Union Hotel/Transportation Committee, along with IBT Hotel/Transportation
Chairs, have recently been made aware that layovers in Ontario, CA have resumed.
While both Unions consistently advocate for safe and quality hotels, it's important to
note that the current property in ONT was selected by Horizon management over
five years ago, without input from the current committee Chairs. Additionally, no
inspection has been conducted since before the COVID-19 pandemic by either the
company or any Union Representative. When the Union requested an inspection last
year, the company declined to conduct a site visit. It remains evident that the
company's hotel-related decisions are driven by cost, while the safety and quality
concerns consistently identified by your Union Representatives are treated as a very
low priority.
The Union remains concerned regarding this property as it previously failed to meet
even basic standards for crew safety and quality. During past stays, the hotel was
observed to be dirty, poorly maintained, non-compliant with California's State Fire
Code, rude personnel and had unreliable transportation, along with concerns about
its location and clientele. Both Unions continue to stand by these concerns that we
raised to management. We need you to take action, so your voices are heard.
If you are assigned an overnight stay in Ontario and do not feel safe upon arrival at
the hotel and choose to refuse the hotel, your Union will fully support your request to
do so. Please contact Crew Scheduling, clearly state that you do not feel safe
(include the reason why on the recorded line and notify your local officers
immediately so they are able to pull the tapes from your call) and require an
alternate hotel. If the scheduler is unable or unwilling to assist with your request, ask
them to page a Duty Officer immediately.
Thank you for your reports that let us know what needs our attention!
In solidarity,
Your AFA Hotel and Transportation Committee
Inflight management issued discipline and your contractual rights
AFA has learned that Horizon Air management has been issuing discipline to Flight Attendants without providing the individual Flight Attendant an opportunity to meet and confer and/or secure Union representation prior to issuing discipline.
