Grievance Newsletter - Septemeber
We are pleased to report that AFA and Inflight management have resolved several open grievances. On July 22-23, 2025, we mediated several grievances arising from updates and changes to our AIMS/eCrew scheduling program. Connor Parker from the National Mediation Board helped us with the process. Here is a summary of each case and the settlement we reached. Please note that payments will be made only to affected Flight Attendants who were still on the seniority list as of July 23, 2025. Do to the delay in receiving the correct information, pay stubs were published prior to this communication. We were awaiting the final list of those flight attendants impacted by the settlements before publishing this communication and verification prior to publication. A. Grievances arising from the AIMS update on December 13, 2022
1. Reserve Self Assign Grievance No. 6-99-2-36-22 concerned the failure of the reserve self-assignment module to work correctly on December 14 and 15, 2022. This failure occurred after an AIMS update was installed late on December 13, 2022. Any Flight Attendant who was eligible to self-assign on those dates will be paid and credited 0.5 hours. “Eligible to self-assign” means that the Flight Attendant was a Reserve or line holder who had picked up a reserve day, and had no duty scheduled for their RAP(s) on December 15 and 16. A Reserve who was mid-trip on those days would not be eligible because they had already been assigned duty for the next day’s RAP.2. Open Time Violation Grievance No. 6-99-2-1-23 was filed because the AIMS update disabled all Open Time functions for 36 hours. Every Flight Attendant who was on active working status on December 14 and/or 15, 2022, will be paid and credited 1.5 hours.
3. Open Time (Magic Monday) Grievance No. 6-99-2-8-23 arose when the AIMS update caused Open Time not to open on "Magic Monday", January 19, 2023 and to remain disabled for 12 days. Each Flight Attendant who was on active working status at any time between January 19 and January 31, 2023, will be paid and credited 2.5 hours.
B. Next Gen Update
4. Reserve Drops Violation Grievance No. 6-99-2-39-23 involved an update that in violation of CBA permitted Reserve Flight Attendants to drop reserve days before July 19, 2023, for the month of August. Any Flight Attendant who had a regular line in August 2023, and any Reserve who did not drop any August reserve days before July 19, 2023, will be paid and credited 1.5 hours.
C. Other Grievances
5. Grievance No. 6-99-2-35-22, which contended that the credit sort list was not working on December 14, 2023. The Company contended that there was no violation because the collective-bargaining agreement provided that Flight Attendants could call Crew Scheduling to learn their place on the list, and that option was available. AFA withdrew this grievance without prejudice, meaning that we can file a new grievance if this happens again.
6. AFA filed a general grievance, 6-99-18-22, alleging that the Company violated a previous settlement agreement when it failed to include the Association in discussions regarding the December 13, 2022, AIMS update before the update was coded. The prior settlement required AFA involvement when the Company programmed items that affect (among other things) Flight Attendant scheduling. The Company contended that an “update” was not programming within the meaning of the settlement as it was basically a face lift, not new programming. AFA’s position is that the update had to be programmed and that the settlement agreement was not limited to the programming of entirely new contractual provisions. We were unable to resolve this grievance, so it remains on the docket.
7. Grievance No. 6-99-2-73-23 covered the Next Gen update and alleged that it violated various contract sections and past practice. The parties made essentially the same arguments as in the above case and were likewise unable to reach a resolution. This case likewise remains on the docket.
We will have an update on the September mediation session soon.
