Message from the MEC on First Class Service Change Notificaiton (7-12-25)

Fellow Flight Attendants:

This message addresses the FAIF sent out to Flight Attendants this evening advising us the carts must remain stowed in the first-class galley during service. This FAIF alters one of our first-class cabin service processes, currently utilized by many of our Flight Attendants. This immediate change was driven by a Voluntary Self-Disclosure (VSD) that the Horizon Air Inflight Department made to the FAA today. VSDs require an immediate change to ensure regulatory complaince, hence a change without the opportunity to build new service guides, update the FAM, revise the service guide, etc.

That said, safety must remain our top priority. Those who are new to using the galley tray to prep the passenger trays in first class will require a longer service time. Please know that no one will be disciplined for incomplete tasks and/or service due to the length of time it will take to prepare your meals while we await new training tools and further guidance from our Training Department. Additionally, if the tray that is referenced in the video attached to the FAIF is not operable, you will not be disciplined for canceling service. Again, safety, yours and the safety of your cabin and passengers, comes above all else.

AFA is committed to ensuring our active and collaborative involvement in the developmental phases of both training curriculum and the practical application of our first-class cabin service procedures. Robin DeMan, Managing Director, Inflight, has confirmed that AFA will be an active partner in developing the training program and processes for the new first-class cabin service. This work will begin next week and is expected to take at least a few weeks. The MECP, in tandem with your Local Officers, will utilize information, suggestions, and recommendations from all AFA subject matter experts, including our Flight Attendant Instructors, Trainers, Mentors, our MEC ASHS Chair, Jennifer Levcun, and our MEC Inflight Service Chair, Heather Coleman.

We understand that Flight Attendants have varying preferences, with some using carts, some using trays, and others using both. We acknowledge your concerns regarding the unilateral nature of these changes, the lack of prior notice, and the limited time for implementation. Please reach out to your Local Officers with your concerns. We are here to listen and will work to ensure your voices are heard.

In unity,

Lisa Davis Warren, Aimee Baird, Jamie Moore, Kirk Hansen and Heather Coleman
