Dear Local 17 Flight Attendants,
We hope this email finds you well. We wanted to give you an update on upcoming events and other news in your Local Council.
Our Local, as well as Alaska Airlines Local 39, have the honor of hosting the AFA Board of Directors Convention in Portland, Oregon March 9th, 10th and 11th. All Local members are invited and encouraged to attend. The convention will be hosted at the unionized Benson Hotel, 309 SW Broadway in downtown Portland. Start time is 0900.
We have a joint meeting with Alaska Council 39 at 1100 on Wednesday, February 25th at the Portland Airport. During our joint meeting, we will be discussing the Board of Director agenda items, as well as planning for the convention and joint interests for both carriers. Following the joint meeting or starting at 1:30 pm, we will conduct our Local meeting with reports and discussions from our committee chairs and our base representatives from our three bases as well as any further discussion and voting on BOD agenda items. The meeting room is a conference room at PDX in the parking garage. To reach the meeting room, go to the north end tunnel from the terminal to the parking garage. Take the elevator to the top floor and then to the right is another elevator that will take you to the 8th floor. A receptionist there can direct you to the meeting room for Alaska/Horizon. During our last Local meeting, it was discussed and then requested that due to the Board of Directors being hosted in Portland and bringing in a couple hundred people, we should use this opportunity to bring attention to our current situation. Our flight attendants are very frustrated with the fact that we are coming up on two years since our contract was amendable. The cost of living is up significantly since our current contract was negotiated six years ago and the majority of our flight attendants are struggling financially to make ends meet each month. In light of this, we have asked, along with our MEC and our Negotiations Committee, for our International Office to coordinate a mobilization event during the Board of Directors meeting. Look for an announcement in the near future for what the event will be, and we hope you will be able to participate with us.
It is important to note that February is Black History Month. We are in the process of getting Black History Month pins to our crew rooms. Here is more information about AFA Black History Month; https://afacwa.org/black-history-month-2026/ |
