MFR Base Closure and Paine Base Reduction

Today's announcement from management hit hard for our Horizon crew based in Medford.  Flight attendants based in Medford received a message Friday night about a meeting to engage in a discussion about the company’s future.  Numerous Medford based crew members, along with your Local President and Vice President, attended today's meeting in the Medford Conference room, hearing this news firsthand.

Management announced its decision to close the Medford crew base, citing a lack of pilot interest; Pilots are not choosing to be based there. To make matters worse, much of the conversation, after the initial announcement, centered on management's excitement about opening a new Las Vegas base. For the Flight Attendants who had just been told their base is closing, this understandably felt dismissive, and was just plain hurtful. Their insistence on expanding on this information during this meeting came across to the Medford crew and to your officers who were in attendance, as if Medford wasn't good enough as a base and our feelings should be dismissed, and as if we should be celebrating this news.

Once again, it feels like a reactionary decision. This time, made without fully considering the impact it will have on the dedicated Flight Attendants who call Medford home.

We want to assure all flight attendants that we have strong contractual protections and many past practices in place to help navigate this transition. We'll be closely reviewing every detail to ensure these rights are upheld and that our Flight Attendants are supported every step of the way.

Right now, there are still many unknowns. Management indicated the closure will happen sometime in the second quarter of 2026. We'll continue to push for clarity and communicate updates as soon as we have them. Management was unable to answer many of the questions posed to them. They should have done this work before this meeting!

Our hearts also go out to our colleagues at Paine Field, who are facing their own difficult news with the announced base reduction.

Please know that we see you, we stand with you, and we'll continue to fight for fair treatment and transparency as these changes unfold.

In Solidarity
