MEC Employee Assistance Program/Professional Standards (EAP)

AFA members and RAFA members in good standing, who are involuntarily displaced from their primary residence for seven or more days as a result of the disaster, are eligible for a one time per calendar year gift of $500.

About your MEC EAP Program;

EAP is a support service provided by Flight Attendants for Flight Attendants, their families, and partners.  EAP peer representatives are trained to provide three distinct, but interrelated, service that include assessment, support, and referral services, professional standards, and critical incident response.

Key Responsibilities

Assessment, Support, and Referral Services

  • Assist members in identifying and developing an action plan to address personal and work-related concerns
  • Provide support to a troubled flight attendant (TFA) during the problem resolution process
  • When professional services or resources are required, identify an appropriate referral(s) and facilitates the TFA’s successful linkage to it

Professional Standards

  • Offer a range of conflict resolution strategies, skills, and support to help co-workers resolve disputes among themselves without the need of management intervention

Critical Incident Response

  • Offer and/or coordinate a range of critical incident stress management services to promote and accelerate recovery in the aftermath of traumatic and/or critical incidents, both on and off the job

  • Personal and work problems
  • Support after a critical incident
  • Assistance in conflict situations with coworkers (Flight Attendants and pilots)

About the MEC EAP Chair: 

The Employee Assistant Program chairperson coordinates with Local Council chairs, confidentially assisting Flight Attendants, their families and partners with work related and personal issues. The chairperson and/or Local Council chairs respond to critical incidents involving Flight Attendants. More information related to the duties of the chairperson are found in the MEC policy and procedures manual, page 29.
