Final farewell

Dear fellow Council 16 Members,

Josh, Wendy, and I wanted to say our farewell as your Council 16 Officers.  It was a pleasure to volunteer our time for such an amazing cause, our Flight Attendant community!  We have made many successes over the last three years, but there are many pending improvements we have advocated for that the MEC must accomplish and/or finalize.  We wish Jamie, Norann and Brandy the best of luck during the next three years.

You will see many changes, as determined by the new officers, in who serves on Council 16 committees and represents the interests of Council 16 Members.  Please refer to the committee pages for the most up-to-date committee representatives. Committee lists can be found on the Council 16 website > Contact Us > Committees > [Select the desired committee]

Continue to use your voice!  Now must be OUR time!  YOU, the AFA members, are the drivers for any and all change and action.  Many decisions are made for us by our elected delegate(s), so it remains important your delegate hears you and is held accountable to you by YOU.  However, there are many decisions that are not made by our elected delegate and are made by us, the constituency, so it is most important to stay engaged and speak up. Refer to our AFA Constitution & Bylaws (C&Bs) for an understanding about AFA structure, organization, and more.  The C&Bs is our union's manual that AFA leaders must abide by.

Show support of your Mobilization Committee as they lead us in this contract fight, and the Negotiation Committee as they are at the table working for our future CBA enhancements. Keep your eye out for a financial security survey (similar to that of AFA Alaska's pre-TA1 financial security survey) that we have requested be conducted immediately to show the negotiation committee specific financial data that pertains to our collective struggle with outdated work rules and pay rates.  Last, but not least, wear your AFA pins; when everyone on the line is wearing an AFA pins, and during this time the red pin, it's our opportunity to show management that we stand together for a better tentative agreement and future.  The stronger our union, the more negotiating power we have!

Until we see you out on the line, fly safe!

In Solidarity!
